808 Boards began in a garage in Napili in 2010 and grew into a full surf and skate shop with the biggest selection of surfboards and stand-up paddleboards for rent on Maui. That origin matters more than it sounds: they are from this stretch of coast, they surf it, and they will tell you when the conditions are wrong rather than rent you a board anyway.
Which is the thing worth knowing if you are staying at Napili Bay. There is no gear rental on the sand here — none at the bay, none within walking distance. Sorting boards before you arrive is the difference between a good morning and a drive back out.
Boards for whatever you are actually doing.

Where they fit into a Napili day.
Napili Bay itself is not a surf break — it is a swimming and snorkelling bay, and in summer it is flat by design. What it is, is five to fifteen minutes from most of the West Side’s good water: Honolua Bay up the road turns into a world-class right in winter, and the gentler learner breaks are a short drive south.
So the pattern that works is: pick up boards, snorkel or swim the bay early while it is glass, then go find waves when the trades come up and the bay gets textured. The shop is the practical piece that makes that day possible.
