Beaches near Napili Bay, in driving order

Everything worth the drive sits inside fifteen minutes. Turtles two minutes south, an actual parking lot five minutes north, a lifeguard at ten, and a marine reserve at fifteen.

Parking: Kapalua, 5 min
Lifeguard: Fleming, 10 min
Best reef: Honolua, 15 min

One of the quiet advantages of basing yourself at Napili is that you are in the middle of the best stretch of coast on this island. Six genuinely different places, all within a quarter of an hour, all with a reason to pick them over the others on a given day.

Two things decide which one you want: the swell and whether you need a restroom. Sort those and the choice makes itself.

Honokeana Cove

2 min south

The turtle one. Small, rocky, barely a beach — but honu are often visible from the rocks without getting in. It fronts a residential condo community, so arrive quietly and park considerately.

Best for: Turtles

Kapalua Bay

5 min north

The easy one. An actual parking lot, restrooms and showers, a tighter and often calmer bay with the reef closer in. The obvious plan B when Napili has no parking.

Best for: Easy snorkel + facilities

D.T. Fleming Beach Park

10 min north

The one with a lifeguard. A proper county park with restrooms, past Kapalua near the Ritz. If you want somebody watching the water, this is the nearest place that has one.

Best for: Families, lifeguard

Honolua Bay

15 min north

A Marine Life Conservation District — no fishing, no taking, no dogs. Excellent snorkelling in summer with visibility that can reach fifty feet. In winter it becomes a serious surf break and is no place to swim. Small dirt lot on the highway that fills before 9am.

Best for: Best summer snorkel

Slaughterhouse Beach (Mokulēʻia)

15 min north

Next door to Honolua and inside the same conservation district. A stairway down to a pocket beach, known for bodyboarding and shore break. Check current access and conditions before committing — this one changes.

Best for: Bodyboarding, in summer

Kapalua Coastal Trail

5 min north to the trailhead

About 1.76 miles one way from Kapalua Bay to D.T. Fleming, roughly three and a half miles there and back. Mixed pavement, lava, sand and stairs along the shoreline. Do it early, before the sun is on it.

Best for: A walk with a view
